Our Approach

Our provision is built around a therapeutic, trauma-informed model that prioritises safety, consistency, and positive relationships.

We support learners to:

  • Re-engage with learning at a pace that is right for them

  • Develop emotional regulation and resilience

  • Build trust, confidence, and communication skills

  • Improve attendance and engagement in education

  • Work towards positive next steps in education, training, or employment

Each learner follows a personalised programme that blends academic learning with therapeutic and practical experiences.

Welcome to New Leaf Centre

New Leaf Centre is a specialist therapeutic alternative provision for young people aged 11–25 with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

Based in a calm, rural setting on the outskirts of Penrith, we provide a structured, supportive environment that enables learners to re-engage with education, rebuild confidence, and achieve meaningful progress.

We work in partnership with local authorities, schools, and families to deliver individualised programmes tailored to each young person’s needs, including those with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).

Our Learning Environment and Enrichment

New Leaf Centre provides a calm, structured rural environment designed to meet the sensory, emotional, and educational needs of neurodivergent learners and those with SEMH needs. Our facilities include quiet learning spaces, a sensory room, creative and vocational areas, breakout rooms, and a kitchen for life skills and independent learning.

Animal-assisted learning is a key part of our provision, with goats, rabbits, chickens, guinea pigs, supporting learners to develop emotional regulation, responsibility, communication, and confidence.

Outdoor learning is embedded throughout our curriculum, including gardening, sustainability projects, forest activities, and off-site experiences, all designed to build engagement and confidence.

Physical wellbeing is supported through structured activities in the on-site sports hall and astroturf pitch promoting teamwork, and healthy routines as part of a balanced, therapeutic approach.
